K-9 II Dryer Losing Power or Running Unusually Hot? Check the Repair Terms Before Shipping

A K-9 II that loses airflow, becomes unusually hot or blows dark dust needs assessment, but those symptoms do not establish that both motors need replacing. Before sending it away, compare what each repair route lets you approve and what you would owe if you decline the work.

This guide concerns the nonvariable K-9 II with two toggle switches. Variable-speed versions need their own model-specific assessment.

Take an abnormal dryer out of use

Stop using the dryer if it produces unusual heat, dark dust, a burning smell, sparks or intermittent operation. Disconnect power if safe, and keep it off animals while the problem is unresolved. Do not run it on a pet or person to judge the fault.

For an unexplained hot, dusty or intermittently faulty dryer, do not open the housing, inspect or replace motor brushes, probe electrical connections or use one motor as a troubleshooting workaround. This is a fault-assessment boundary, not a claim that the manufacturer prohibits routine brush maintenance. Do not run without a filter, repeatedly reset a tripped breaker or change the electrical supply to keep working. Leave an unsafe plug, cord or outlet alone and obtain appropriate help.

Check local and manufacturer support before arranging shipping

Electric Cleaner Company’s own service page, checked November 2, 2026, offers direct inspection and a repair quote, and recommends contacting your dealer or another dealer in its network for local help. It says many dealers offer on-site inspection and repair, and some have loaner machines. Ask the specific dealer about K-9 II acceptance, location, charges and loaner availability; none is guaranteed for your case.

For direct manufacturer service, the FAQ says inbound postage is prepaid by the customer and repair follows acceptance of a quote. Confirm current intake instructions, assessment charges and return costs if you decline. Do not transfer the dealer-mediated package terms below to a direct manufacturer arrangement. Local assessment may avoid sending the dryer away, but confirm how the dealer actually handles repairs.

The choice is about authorization, not just the estimate

The following comparison is based on the providers' published US terms, checked November 1, 2026. It is desk research, not a report of a Mad Labs repair or a tested referral. Confirm the current terms for your dryer before committing.

PetEdge: some work proceeds without another approval

PetEdge lists K-9 dryer service and evaluation without a diagnostic fee. Its policy says repairs under $100 are completed and charged automatically; it contacts you for authorization when the expected repair exceeds $100. The page does not specify how an estimate of exactly $100 is handled, so ask if that affects your approval limit.

If you decline repair and want the dryer reassembled and returned, the listed reassembly fee is $15, plus return freight. Estimates exclude shipping. A free evaluation can therefore still leave you with transport and reassembly costs.

Choose this route only if its authorization policy suits you, or the provider explicitly agrees to a different limit before you ship. A note requesting a quote first does not by itself change the published policy.

K-9Dryers.com: an upfront commitment, then a parts invoice

K-9Dryers.com's US factory-repair route charges for review and labor up front, with transport to and from the repair facility calculated at checkout. After assessment, it sends a separate invoice for the required parts; the published sequence places payment before repair.

If you decline that invoice, the terms allow return of the unrepaired dryer or recycling, with no refund. Ask what the initial payment and shipping cover for your selected K-9 II, including return arrangements if you decline. Do not treat the initial payment as a refundable deposit.

This dealer-mediated route currently identifies an Electric Cleaner Company facility in Texas. Use the label and instructions supplied for your accepted order, not an address from an older search result. Warranty claims have a separate manufacturer-contact route.

Send a useful history, not a guessed diagnosis

Use an accessible label or existing records for the model and voltage. Tell the provider whether airflow changed suddenly or gradually, what unusual heat or dust you noticed, and what was previously repaired. Include an existing invoice if available. “One motor was serviced, but I do not know what was replaced” is more useful than assuming both motors are worn out.

You do not need to restart the dryer for a video. Confirm exact-model acceptance, what to pack and the receiving instructions before sending anything. Do not dismantle the dryer for shipping.

Decide what you are willing to spend before dispatch

Compare the complete repair proposal with a suitable working replacement: parts, labor, packing, transport and any charges if you decline. Include a backup only if you actually need one while the dryer is away. A cheap home dryer or single-motor unit may not replace the equipment you use; an untested used dryer is not equivalent to a working one with clear seller support.

Ask how additional work will be authorized and what happens if parts are unavailable. Do not plan around a return date unless the provider confirms it. If approval of every charge matters more than a quick turnaround, resolve that before shipping rather than after the dryer has been assessed.

The linked providers are the direct places to confirm their terms. These are public service options, not claimed Mad Labs partners. If you prefer to ask Mad Labs about your situation, use the repair request form with the model and observations you already have. An inquiry does not confirm service availability, acceptance or a repair outcome.
