A different-feeling string job, a changing display and an inaccurate measured pull are not the same problem. Before adjusting a WISE 2086’s calibration—or buying another head—identify which observation you actually have.
The useful alternative to guessing is a manufacturer checkup: Tennishead currently offers a recalibration check without a calibration service charge, but return shipping is charged. That is not a promise of free hardware repair.
Stop if the head is behaving unsafely
Do not keep using a head that moves unexpectedly, is visibly damaged or cannot deliver reliable tension. Do not reproduce a fault on a customer’s racquet. Do not open the head or power supply, force the gripper or try firmware as a general repair.
Choose the right question for support
The pull or display changed
Record pounds versus kilos, pre-stretch and constant-pull settings. Pre-stretch intentionally exceeds the reference tension before returning to it; constant pull maintains tension as the string relaxes. Changed behavior can be a settings question, not calibration drift.
A reference measurement disagrees
Identify the measuring instrument and how the reading was obtained. Tennishead calls for an accurate reference and warns against using a spring calibrator to set calibration. Changing the head to agree with an unreliable gauge can make the result worse.
If only the finished racquet feels different, report that separately. It is not a direct measurement of the tension head. Start with the settings and any actual measurements you already have rather than changing calibration values to chase a feeling.
Series 14 does not mean every button does the same thing
The manufacturer’s support page separates Series 12-and-older calibration instructions from Series 14 instructions. Identify the head from its label, paperwork and controls before choosing either document.
There is another wrinkle within Series 14. The support-linked manual describes PAUSE, while the current head listing describes KNOT and an update for older Series 14 units with PAUSE. The listing explicitly excludes Series 12 and older from that update. Tell support which control you have; do not follow a button sequence merely because the housing looks familiar.
The manual also warns that string in the gripper during startup or the test cycle can set a false zero. Report whether that happened; do not repeatedly reset a malfunctioning head under load. Code 7 is described as the gripper reaching its travel limit without tightening the string—not a diagnosis that the motor or circuit board has failed.
What the calibration checkup does—and does not—offer
Tennishead’s FAQ offers an at-any-time mail-in recalibration checkup and says it charges only return shipping for that checkup. Include your inbound shipping and protective packing in the decision. Ask about your head’s eligibility and any separate inspection or repair charges if the problem turns out to be hardware.
If you lack an appropriate reference instrument or are unsure which procedure applies, that checkup is a practical alternative to buying a gauge and altering calibration yourself. It does not establish that every older series has repair parts available.
Warranty is separate. The two-year warranty terms cover manufacturing defects subject to their conditions, put inbound shipping on the customer and allow a nominal return-shipping charge. Do not treat a general “free postage” sales message as free service freight.
Repair the head, replace the head, or change the whole setup?
If hardware repair is needed, compare its complete quote with a compatible replacement tension head before pricing an entirely new stringing machine. Ask Tennishead to confirm the adapter and working arrangement using your base machine’s make, model and photos. A sound base need not be discarded simply because its separate electronic head needs work.
Use the manufacturer’s replacement listing to check the current package and ask for a dispatch estimate before planning paid stringing work around a new head. Include any necessary adapter, freight and time without the machine in the comparison. A head-only price is not the cost of every possible mounting arrangement.
Before shipping for service, obtain the return authorization and confirm what accessories to include. If the support page’s form will not download, use its published contact details for instructions. Send the series, control layout, existing error code, settings and any reliable measurement; no new fault demonstration is needed.
